This morning I had breakfast at the new Sixty West Diner. The restaurant is a replacement for Bay Coast Coffee on Gulf to Bay in Clearwater. Due to it's location next to an existing coffee chain Bay Coast struggled to make a name for itself. The owners recognized this and reinvented the restaurant into the Sixty West Diner. As it goes, most diners are synonomous with greasy spoons. Not the case with Sixty West. The food is fresh and does not come with the complimentary grease that most diners do. In fact, it is more like a cafe than a diner. The food is served quickly and with a smile. The service is personal and the atmosphere quiet. The only downside, the tempting homemade sweets in the cases near the counter. They look delectible and tempting, which is a tough thing for those of us trying to watch our weight. The best thing on the menu, no offense to the cooks, is the fresh squeezed orange juice. There is no corn syrup. There is no box or carton from which your juice is poured. Whole oranges are placed in the machine and squeezed right in front of your eyes into your glass. It is then brought right to you where you can taste the way God intended for orange juice to taste. Definately not like some frozen concentrate. The prices are reasonable and the selection if varied. From breakfast to lunch to dinner, there is something for everyone at Sixty West.
